SCORED by the DOE

Numbers on a sheet are just that.. numbers. Even when compared to others, side by side, judged by the same criteria they remain numbers. We are not numbers yet the system we abide by has recognized that it doesn’t help our students but continue to use them to frame our worth.

Don’t get me wrong. In a world where numbers dictate facts, math happens to be a universal language and truth that you cannot deny, therefore these numbers I am sharing with you tells my quantified truth.. but it doesn’t and will NEVER measure my value as a teacher.

Remember the scores are determined by the number of responses and this is determined by the number of students that fill out the surveys. In some cases, a teacher selects the students and some schools select the students to fill out their survey because YES, schools have scores as well.
And if this is the case, can we say the word SKEWED?
Because I understand stats, and I pride myself in complete honesty and transparency, I gave my surveys to the entire class. And when I received my scores, I would reflect on them and work on how I could improve.
And lastly, in some cases consider the fact that these are children and some operate on negative vengeful methods of expression, so even then, relax and trust your craft.

Enjoy doing the math.

To all teachers showing up every day, tired, frustrated, exhausted, please remember you do matter and our students need the best version of you.
Yet if you have grown indifferent, then the numbers can be an indicator and you deserve to be where you are appreciated and assisted and supported.

If you will not care to make that move then remember there are consequences to every decision. Don’t make the wrong ones.
